Menopause Myths: Menopause Can Be Prevented

I don’t know where this myth came from, but unfortunately, there is no way to prevent menopause. Menopause is as natural as experiencing your period, and while there now are pills to suppress your period, there’s no way to prevent the cessation of menstruation and egg production.

What is Menopause?

Menopause is classified as the cessation of menstruation for twelve consecutive months. It occurs as the ovaries produce less estrogen and egg production and menstruation slow and become irregular. Women typically begin early menopause between the ages of forty and sixty, although some begin early and some later. Menopause may last for six months or up to four to ten years depending on the person. Many women are at a higher risk for certain diseases after menopause due to the drop in estrogen.

Symptoms of Menopause

Symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, night sweats, irregular periods, mood swings, irritability, thinning hair or vaginal dryness. Some women may experience mild urinary incontinence or pain during intercourse. Other women experience virtually no symptoms.

Remember, menopause isn’t the end of your life; it’s simply the beginning of a new stage. Imagine a life freed from the hassles of monthly periods.
