College students generally like to procrastinate when it comes to homework. They would rather go out and enjoy their new environment instead of doing homework. It’s a matter of making finishing homework a priority.
As a parent, you can push and push your kids to understand the importance of homework, but until they’re mature enough, they may not listen.
Your kids need to know there is an 8:00am, they’re young adults who are now going to be held responsible for their actions.

Try to make homework interesting. Here’s a bit of trivia on homework. College students often show their personalities by the way they choose to do homework.
If a college student prefers not to study, he’s prone to cheating. This student is a good candidate for dropping out. You’ll find this student copying papers just before class time. This student usually doesn’t take his college career seriously.
If a college student prefers to study at an upper-crust coffee shop, others may assume this student is stuck up. Don’t be fooled – this student is typically unmotivated and finds they like to pretend working while being around those who really do work.
If a college student prefers to study at his parents” house is because they’re serious about school. This student is willing to work and study to achieve a degree so they can have a better life.
If a college student prefers to do his homework in his car, he’s probably a procrastinator. They’ll rearrange their whole schedule at the last possible moment to get their homework done.
If a college student likes to study at home, he’s probably more of a social being. They don’t like to be left out of the goings-on around the dormitory. They don’t mind being interrupted or distracted. They are usually very good at multi-tasking.
If a college student likes to go to the library to do his homework, he’s probably an independent person. This type of college student is organized and needs peace and quiet to do his homework.
Some helpful hints to help your kids finish their homework before they go out
- Purchase and update a notebook to know what assignments are due. Be organized and specific. List the subjects, the assignment, and the due date. Look over the assignments daily to become familiar with deadline dates. Learn to prioritize. Take this notebook wherever you go.
- Schedule and adhere to time that is specifically set aside for homework.
- Schedule and adhere to breaks throughout this time.
- Realize the importance of homework and the expense of higher education.
- Form a study group.
- Find out your personality type when it comes to homework and accentuate the positive.
- Remind your kids when they are prepared, they will do well in school and will even enjoy it more.
