What is considered a sexual dysfunction?

A sexual dysfunction for a woman usually means that sex is no longer enjoyable, and she is also experiencing a lack in her sexual desire.  Most women suffer in these ways:

  • No interest in sex
  • Not being able to become aroused
  • Trouble with an orgasm
  • Pain during intercourse

If a woman is experiencing distress from a sexual problem, it then becomes a sexual dysfunction.

What causes a sexual dysfunction?

There are many factors that can go into developing a sexual dysfunction. Stress can be a big part of why a woman develops a sexual dysfunction. Physical issues can cause a woman to become uncomfortable with herself and her body. When a woman ages it causes hormones to fluctuate creating changes in the vagina such as vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can make sexual intercourse sometimes painful for the woman.

What are symptoms to watch out for?

When a woman is experiencing a sexual dysfunction, symptoms will vary greatly. The most common symptom being a decline in sexual desire. Women can also suffer from complications of becoming aroused, and not being able to have an orgasm. Pain during sex can also be a symptom of a female sexual dysfunction.

What is a female sexual dysfunction caused by?

A sexual dysfunction could be caused by a number of different things. Usually a female sexual dysfunction will stem from one of these three things:

  • Physical causes
  • Hormone changes
  • Psychological and Social Causes

Physical complications can cause a woman to lose sexual desire very quickly. Hormone changes also pose a problem because of the changes that happen to the vagina. A lot of sexual dysfunction will arise from psychological issues and stereotypes instilled upon woman today.

When should I seek medical help?

Women should begin seeking medical help once their dysfunction is bothering them psychologically or causing problems in their relationships.

Can female sexual dysfunction be prevented?

Women can prevent themselves from experiencing sexual dysfunction in many ways, such as:

  • Practice communication with your partner
  • Become familiar with how you become aroused
  • Try to separate daily stress from your love life
  • Be realistic with yourself and avoid high expectations
  • Use lubrication to avoid pain
