Pomegranates and Erectile Dysfunction: Study Shows Pomegranates May Cure Impotence

Every year millions of men suffer the embarrassment and frustration of erectile dysfunction. It is estimated that close to 18 million men in the United States alone are effected by the condition.

A study done by Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health in February of 2007 shows that approxiamtely one in five men experience some instance of erectile dysfunction through out their life. There are many precription medications on the market that are supposed to aid with the condition.

A study published in the International Journal of Impotence Research found that by drinking about 8 ounces of 100 percent pomegranate juice each day does help with erectile dysfunction and impotence. The study tested 61 men for a few weeks that had experienced mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. Half of the particpants were given the pomegranate juice while the other half were given a placebo.

At the end of the study it was found that Forty seven percent of the participants reported that their erections improved with the use of pomegrante juice. These results did show the researches that pomegranet juice did have positive effects on erectile dysfunction and prompted them to conduct additional studies with more patients and longer treatement periods.

The co-author of the study Harin Padma-Nathan, MD, FACS, FRCS, who is a Clinical Professor of Urology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California was very encourage by the finding of the study and was thrilled that there was a more natural way that men can treat erectile dysfuction.
