It is estimated that a whopping thirty six million American’s suffer from seasonal allergies. That means a country full of people walking around with itchy, watery eyes, stuffy noses and sneezing everywhere.

Of the millions of Americans with outdoor allergies, many develop allergic reactions to other allergens as well. For some, seasonal allergies turn into year-round perennial allergies, providing no relief from the itching and sneezing.

Allergies can be seasonal, but for most people they are year round problems. Apart from outdoor allergens such as pollen, and grass, indoor allergens can severely reduce the quality of life of many people.

Each spring, summer, and fall can bring about different types of allergens that will affect you if you have seasonal allergies. These allergens are usually pollen related and are limited to one season, and differ from the pet and dust allergens that aggravate perennial allergies.

Seasonal allergies can be even more of a nuisance than general allergies. Seasonal allergies tend to sneak up on us, striking when we least expect it. After their dramatic onslaught of a few months, seasonal allergies disappear, leaving us exhausted and nervous in their wake, not sure when we can leave the house and not be overcome with sneezing.

If you have pollen allergies then try and have someone else do your yard work while you stay inside on windy days or in mornings when pollen counts are higher (air conditioning helps even more).

When school starts in the fall there are outdoor sports such as football, cross-country and golf just to name a few that give our children the chance to get fresh air and exercise. However, what happens when your child suffers from school playground and pollen allergies?

A seasonal allergy is an allergic reaction to a trigger that is typically only present for a season or part of a year, such as spring or fall. Perennial allergies, on the other hand, are usually present all the time and include allergens such as pet dander and dust.
